Useful Coach Chauffeur Skills

Many people think that being a chauffeur is all about driving rich people around in a really big coach. However, the difference between being just a driver and being an exceptional chauffeur is about the extra things you do for your passengers to make sure their trip is hassle free, relaxing and of course indulgent in every way.

Therefore, in addition to being able to drive a large coach smoothly through any streets and any route, a good chauffeur may also be fluent, or at least competent, in several different languages. Being able to speak different languages may have unexpected benefits when picking up passengers who can speak English, but prefer to use their native tongue, as being greeted in their own language by their chauffeur will help them to immediately relax. Speaking other languages may also help you to get more work or better paid work when passengers request a chauffeur who can speak their language over an English speaking driver.

A chauffeur also needs to have a good general knowledge basis to be able to make inoffensive small talk, make intelligent comments if their passengers ask their opinion and understand how to avoid any embarrassing faux pas.

Being a good chauffeur is also all about being there when your passengers are ready to leave and be picked up, therefore a chauffeur should have general mechanical knowledge to allow them to fix any problems which may arise with their coach in the course of their shift.

Local knowledge will also be a great asset for a chauffeur’s passengers to call on during their trip. Not only does general and local knowledge allow the chauffeur to find the quickest route to their destination, it is also useful if their passengers want to go for a longer cruise in their coach and enjoy the local sights and attractions. Passengers will also ask their chauffeur’s opinion on the best cafe, restaurant or theatre in the area and a chauffeur with knowledge of a variety of eateries can not only recommend their personal favourite, but also one which would appeal to each individual passenger.

Also, being a chauffeur, your passengers are in your care when they ride in your coach, so basic first aid is also a useful skill to help with general bandaging of a cut if the passenger knocks themself, if they have a specific medical condition or if there is any type of accident.

I must say your staff were so friendly and knowledgeable when I booked a mini bus last week to take my friends and I to see our favourite football team. We had a great time and the driver made sure we got home safely!
