Coach Chauffeur Passing the Time

While a lot of your time as a chauffeur will be spent driving, a lot will also be spent waiting. This waiting may be because you have arrived early at a pick up to ensure you didn’t keep your passengers waiting, you may have extra time in between jobs or you may be waiting in between picking up your passengers and taking them to their next destination.

Therefore, it can be easy to get bored, grumpy and feel confined and frustrated when a lot of your time is spent just sitting in your car waiting. However, there are plenty of things you can easily do to pass the time and still remain ready for action when you passengers are ready to leave.

For example, you could simply read a book or magazine. Make sure it is something appropriate in case your passengers sneak up on you before you expected them to be ready or if your reading material catches their eye you don’t want to appear to be a political fanatic or reveal any unusual interests.

Or you could simply listen to the radio as while you are driving your passengers around, the coach radio is probably off, or tuned to a station your passengers have selected so while you are waiting for them to return is the perfect chance to put in your favourite CD or catch up on some talk back radio. However, again make sure the radio or CD you are listening to is appropriate and not offensive in any way, and not something you will get too caught up in, like racing for example, and not notice you should be leaving.

To keep your mind alert and sharp while waiting in your coach, you might like to attempt a crossword or some other word or number puzzle as this can quickly and easily pass the time and it is small and easy to pack up when it is time to go.

You may also choose to browse through the newspaper to keep abreast of world events in case your passengers engage you in small talk, but remember not to get too carried away and harass them with your views.

However, the first thing you should do if you have a bit of extra time in your coach is to make sure you have had something to eat and drink, have gone to the bathroom, had a smoke and fuelled and tidied up the coach so that everything is ready for your passenger’s return and you are not scrambling around brushing lunch crumbs from your tie.
